5 Creative Workshops to Make Your Weekends Count

Think Singapore is boring with nothing to do? Think again.

Singapore is known to be one of the major financial hubs in the world. However, there is another side to the Lion City that has been greatly overlooked and underappreciated: our local Arts scene.

If you are wondering where all our artsy-fartsy people are at, get out of the concrete jungle and find them this weekend by signing up for these creative workshops at MOX, a dead mall that has been revived and transformed into Singapore’s first and largest independent co-making design workspace!

#1: Create Your Own Working Desk with FRANK by OCBC x Triple Eyelid !

Triple Eyelid’s team is made up of young designers who use sustainable waste materials from discarded job sites to create environmentally sustainable designs.

If you are into minimalism, great! In this workshop, you will learn how to reduce all the noise on your desk and work with what you truly need.

With timbre, participants will learn how to create a simple yet elegant desk tray that includes a smart device slot, circular indent for keys and a large tray compartment for your essential stationery.

In line with the team’s focus to re-define, re-design and reduce environmental waste, Triple Eyelid will provide participants with reclaimed pallet pine timbre. These materials would have been inspected thoroughly for presence of rusty nails and hand sanded professionally using top grade sandpaper to remove wood splinters.

#3: Create Your Own Mandala with Darkmatter!

Mandalas are spiritual symbols often used in Buddhism and Hinduism to represent the Universe. In Sanskrit, its literal meaning translates as ‘circle’ or ‘completion’. In this Mox x Darkmatterr workshop, participants will be introduced to some modern mandalas around the world and be educated on the brief history about the essence of mandalas.

At the end of the workshop, you will be equipped with knowledge of different basic patterns or motifs to help you build confidence in completing a mandala with simple everyday tools.

Price is inclusive of all materials that include but are not limited to: papers, technical pens, pencil, pens, compass, protractor, paper, sets of coloured inks. Tips and techniques to help you transform your sketch into a beautiful and fascinating art piece will be shared.

#4: Create Your Very Own Reversible Japanese Knot Bag with Tam’s Crafts!

If you are new to sewing and are looking for a simple item to start off with, then this Japanese knot bag workshop is for you!

In this workshop, Tam’s Crafts will impart valuable sewing skills to participants and teach them how to create useful and pretty crafts they can use in their everyday life. Techniques learned in this workshop can be used to make pouches or bags of different sizes.

Best part about this bag is that it is reversible! This means that participants will be able to choose two cloth designs they like and make one for themselves! Another bonus is that upon completion, you will be able to use ‘two bags’ at once. Simply turn the bag inside out whenever you feel like it and enjoy a ‘brand new’ bag! For those who are afraid of seeing someone with the same bag, what spells original better than a bag made by yourself?
